This week's visitors to the Swamp were Penshurt Park and although on paper they may not appear to be one of the strongest sides in the League, they recently took all 6 points off Rusthall III. We knew would have to be at our best today if we were to avoid any potential slip up and increase our lead at the top of the table.
With Peter Hart unavailable due to injury, Dan Gurney unwell and Paul Herbert still away on holiday, we were again forced to make changes to last week's team. Thankfully the squad was boosted by the return of Martin Tamplin, who had spent the last few weeks with the 1st team.
We lined up with J Faulkner in goal. A back four of Bridges, Thompson, Chambers and Tamplin. The midfield had a familiar look to it, with M Faulkner and Tuema occupying the wide positions and Poore, who remembered his boots this week, returning to partner Bowen in the middle. Rosier joined Thomas upfront. This weeks subs were Warner, Hunt and Piscina.
After struggling through our last few matches we knew that today would be a good opportunity for us to get our passing game going again and to start to get some consistency back into our play.
I'm glad to say that on the whole, today saw us return to the style of play that we know that we are capable of. Everyone wanted the ball and all appeared to be comfortable in possession. At times the way that we moved the ball from back to front was as good as we have done all season. We took our chances at regular intervals throughout the game and never looked in danger of conceding at the other end.
The final score was a great 9-0 victory, which, had it not been for some decent stops from the Penshurst keeper could of been more. Josh started the scoring early on. Both Bomber and Faulks finished with hatricks and Glen came of the bench to score a second half double. Pick of the goals went to Faulks, as he controlled the Penshurst keepers goal kick on his chest and nonchalantly volleyed the ball back over his head from 35 yards.
The squad is really starting to take shape now and the competition for places is hotting up. This should stand us in good stead for the second half of the season as we battle for honours on 2 fronts. I am sure that we have got the personnel to see us get over the finishing line, but is up to us all to make sure that this is what happens. I am sure that he coming weeks are going to be pretty exciting. Lets get ready to rumble.....
