Despite a 45 minute delay to the kick off,
Invicta U16's returned from the
Christmas break in a determined and positive frame
of mind to make it 5 wins
in a row and hold on to to spot in the U16 c division.
Despite
going 1-0 down on 7 mins after Tom Willers missed
a golden
opportunity to take the lead, they recovered well
and went 2-1 up after 12
mins with Willers and Hermitage getting the goals.
The
defence continued to look an impressive unit and
maintained their
composure having gone 327 minutes without conceding.
This allowed the
Invicta midfield to push on and create further openings.
However it was not
until the 38 minute that a goal kick from Kinderman
was taking down on the
turn by Willers and he made amends for earlier misses
by making it 3-1 at
the break.
An early goal in the second period to give
Willers his hat trick, sealed the
game for Invicta on 48 mins and the game really opened
up as Surf went for
broke. With Nicholls and Parsons giving the Invicta
central midfield better
balance, Teddy was making some excellent runs down
the left, unfortunately
the final ball from both flanks denied Invicta more
goals in this spell.
Surf pulled open back with a wicked
deflection off Thompson, but Invicta
consolidated and Mason laid on his third goal of
the game as Josh Poore
squeezed the ball home at the near post.
Man of the
Match went to Jack Freke for his continued high standard
of
performance and a special mention for Tom Parsons
and Andrew Whittome for
excellent displays and keeping the competitions for
their places at bay.
The return of both Teddy and Glen
Nicholls gave Invicta improved options as
they maintained their 2005 form.
Invicta travel To Hamsey Rangers next week in a league game.
