Date: 30th October 2005
Scorers:
Poore 2, Willers 3, Thompson,
Hermitage, Hinson
Half Time 4 - 1
Man of the Match:
Josh Poore - Always
looked dangerous and a threat to the opposition, taking
his two goals
very well and settling into the squad.
Having suffered their first defeat against Redhill last week, it was a question of how Invicta would respond against a Coulsdon Athletic team who gained their first victory last week. With 3 squad members unavailable a deserved first start was given to Edd Taylor, Josh Poore started up front and top scorer Tom Willers was rested being named amongst the subs.
The game opened at a sedate pace as much of the play centred around the midfield area. Although Invicta had more possession, good scoring opportunities were limited until Mason and Poore combined to find Hermitage in the box who set up Thompson only to see a tame shot easily saved. That livened Invicta up and within a minute Thompson pounced on a poor clearance and drove home the opener on 20 mins.
The second came on 25 as Maurice Holmes fed Josh Poore who knocked it over the advancing keeper. Invicta were checked when Coulsdon responded to make it 2-1 before the half hour after Kinderman’s fine stop was followed up, but the 2 goal cushion was restored after a Thompson shot and follow up allowed Hermitage the simplest of tap ins. A fine solo run and finish by Poore on half time gave Invicta a 4-1 lead against faltering opponents.
The second period saw Willers and Teddy replace Whittome and Phillips with the message to deny Coulsdon any opportunities to get themselves back in the game. Barnett and Leigh had little to worry about as the Tom Willers one man show exploded with 3 superb finishes inside the first 10 mins of the second period to give Invicta a 7-1 lead, Tom his hat trick and a release to his frustration of not starting.
Further opportunities did fall, but credit
to Coulsdon they kept going and scored twice to maintain
Invicta’s
run of conceding 3 goals in each of their last
4 games.
Invicta’s eighth came on the final whistle after
a Mason free kick was headed home by the improving
Tim Hinson for his first goal of the season.
Once again Invicta’s strength in depth and overall team effort made sure they bounced straight back with a victory and look to take this onto next week's league game versus Stanhope who will offer a stronger test.
Invicta then take a break from league action as they play in the Kent Youth Cup and League Shield competitions.
Next week, home vs. Stanhope KO 10.30am Swanmead.
