Horley Town 4 - 1 Invicta
Date: 20th November 2005
Tandridge League Shield
Invicta U16 went out of the League Shield with a 4-1
defeat away to
Horley
Town in a bad tempered encounter. With the kick off
delayed until 11.30
am
to allow the pitch to thaw, the surface was slippery
and not ideal for
a
passing game.
Horley went ahead on 21 mins when Phillips
missed his clearance and the
ball
was slotted home from 8 yards. It remained that way
until half time,
though
Invicta had man of the match Andrew Whittome to thank
after a goal line
clearance and fine late block. Invicta's best chance
fell to Ollie
Leigh
whose header went over from a Mason corner.
The second
period was scrappy as challenges were flying in all
over the
park
and eventually the referee was forced to produce
a series of yellow
cards,
though the damage was done following a series of poor
challenges that
went
unpunished.
Horley went 2-0 up mid way though the second
half after Invicta gave
away a
thrown and were cut open with a simple through ball.
It was soon 3-0
from
corner that Kinderman could only parry and the game
seemed over.
The last 10 mins saw Invicta's best spell
of the game and substitute
Holmes
who shaved the bar with his first effort netted from
close range with
5mins
to play with his second opportunity.
As Invicta pushed
on a misunderstanding gifted Horley 4th and confirmed
Invicta's exit from this competition. Invicta still
have Horley to play
in
the league and will look to put in a better footballing
display to make
amends.
Invicta's run of away games continue with a trip to Coulsdon Athletic next.
