Addiscombe Corinthians 0 - 1 Invicta
Date: 18th December 2005
Invicta finished 2005 in top spot with a hard earnt
battling performance
against an equally determined Addiscombe side. This was
Invicta 4th clean
sheet in a row and captain Thompson was magnificent in
marshalling the
defence.
This was a game of little quality football as the open
space of the Purley
Way presented a sloping pitch that was only just declared
fit for play as
the overnight frost never lifted. Credit to both teams
for making the best
of the conditions and having defended the slope in the
first period, the
expectation of Invicta pushing home the advantage in
the second never really
materialised.
Despite an off form display from leading goalscorer
Willers he had the best
chance in the first period but was denied by an excellent
save from the home
keeper. The rest of the period saw the Invicta defence
of Thomson, Barnett,
Leigh and the outstanding Freke protect Kinderman.
Invicta were struggling in the middle of the park from
a creative
perspective and having to chase and battle for every
ball. When Willers
picked up possession on the right his run and cross was
enough to give
Invicta the lead on 50 mins when a home defender turned
the ball into his
own net as Parsons was about to pounce.
Believing this would settle Invicta, the game continued
in the same pattern
and Addiscombe put Invicta under pressure for long periods
of the second
half without Kinderman really being troubled.
It was relief at the full time whistle as the conditions
won the day, but
left Invicta with another two points in their quest for
a top three finish.
Next Training session is Friday Jan 6th at Edenbridge
and Invicta are at
home to Surf on Sunday 8th January at Swanmead.
