Redhill 2 - 3 Spitfires
Date: 9th April 2006
Invicta put up one of their best displays of the season against third placed Redhill.
Without a couple of regulars they completely dominated from the start and took an early lead when a Redhill defender helped a Timmy Ansdell effort into his own net. The expected Redhill onslaught didn’t materialise and Invicta were in full control when Matt Shipley added a second, and Shipley went on to grab his second and Invicta’s third with a cool finish after good build-up play. It could have been worse for Redhill as Sam Carpenter and Will Hinton both hit the woodwork but they pulled a goal back before the break to give themselves hope.
The second half saw the home side fight back strongly and shots started to rain-in on the Invicta goal but stout defending keep Redhill out until late in the game when they scored their second. The last few minutes were played in and around the Invicta penalty area but they deservedly held on for an impressive win which moves them up to fourth in the league with one game left. This was a very solid team effort with everyone giving their all but Hinton’s all action display earned him man of the match.
