Tonbridge Invicta Spitfires 0 - 0 Old Coulsdon Jets
Date: 23rd April 2006
The final league match of the season began with Invicta searching for the victory that would give them a great chance of fourth place and with Coulsdon struggling near the bottom they had every hope of doing so.
Unfortunately for Invicta they came up against spirited opposition and the away team gave as good as they got in the opening half, although chances for both sides were at a premium.
The second half though was a different matter as Invicta began to take control with Timmy Ansdell mopping up at the back, Gareth Hughes making his presence felt in midfield and Sam Carpenter constantly troubling the Coulsdon defence. The best chances did indeed fall to Carpenter but he shot straight at the keeper when through and then flashed a header just over the bar. The final minutes saw Invicta camped in and around the visitors penalty area but they were just unable to breach a gutsy Coulsdon defence.
On a positive note other results mean that there’s still a possibility of fourth place, and the outcome of next weeks fixture between Orpington and Orpington Rovers will determine that.
