Tonbridge Invicta Hurricanes 0 Afewee Urban 6 Sunday 2nd March 2008
10.40 kick off. 10.40 and 38 seconds 1-0 to Afewee Urban! The Hurricanes couldn’t have got off to a worse start as they faced a high-flying Afewee side they knew they would need to play well against.
In fact Hurricanes rose to the occasion. After that first strike there was only one more goal in the next 50 minutes of the game, and that tells a far more accurate story of the game than the final scoreline. The Hurricanes' first half performance was a good one with some strong tackling, particularly from the defence of Luke Bohanan, Sam Greehy, Will Clark and Henry Partridge. In midfield Gabriel Russell and Ryan Hine were in the thick of everything and on the wing Elliot Checkley was working hard. Kane Joseph, spearheading the attack had his work cut out against a solid Afewe defence and early on got two great strikes in on goal, both just going inches wide of the post.
Afewee scored their third goal seventeen minutes before the end and this effectively ended Hurricanes’ chance of getting back in the game. Unusually, Hurricanes lost some of their fight at this point; Afewee started getting to the ball first and tackling harder and goals came their way as a result.
Hurricanes should take heart from their battling performance earlier in the game against the team now topping the table and look to replicate this next match - against the team....topping the table! Moonshot.
Man of the Match, as voted by the supporters: In the words of the manager “He knows how to tackle!...A bloomin’ maniac!”: Luke Bohanan
