Tonbridge Invicta 1 Doverhouse Lions 1 2nd December 2007
Probably the best game of the season! We did have torrential rain pouring down on our heads but it didn’t matter! We did go down 1-0 but that didn’t matter! We pulled back though and that did matter! They didn’t help by turning up late leaving us in the cold. Some sensible people retreated back to their cars.
Mr Russell had the wonderful job of referring, persuaded by Lee. I wonder why!
The game kicked of and we charged into attack, already Gabriel Russell was making good tackles and Sam Greehy was doing well to clear the ball. Unfortunately the ball rolled to a forward from the left wing that raced forward to chip it over Stanley Hill. 1-0. Hurricanes came back with their heads held high and forced the attack on them. Some excellent throws by Keiron Matthews and Luke Bohanan was playing brilliantly. A handball came just on the side line and Sam took the free kick. As it swerved in, the teams had a scuffle and the ball fell to Gabriel who hit to Elliott Checkley whose first touch left shot swerved in beyond the keeper’s reach. 1-1.
The Doverhouse team seemed to be attacking well and some good saves from Stanley managed to keep them out. Gabriel tackled madly, as he threw himself at a player and hit the ball to safety. A quick break entered a one on one with Luke and he did brilliantly to keep it out. Some Ryan runs tried to set up Kane and George but were unsuccessful. Will seemed to be managing the right side of defence with some exquisite tackles. The weather got worse and worse and at one point it seemed to be hail throwing down at us. The moment the referee’s whistle blew for the last time, a huge cry of STAMPEDE! went up and the supporters were besieged by the desperate players.
A very well done to all the team for playing very well.
A thank you to all the supporters who risked their lives with frostbite and hyperthermia to watch a decent game of football.
Thanks to Gabriel Russell for this week’s report. Unfortunately, the usual match-reporter drowned.
The MOTM this week was… Becca Bohanan! Mum of the match! What was she doing there?! A fantastic display of supporting madness. Thank you!
