Today’s visitors to the sports ground were previously unbeaten Westerham Wolves. Just like last week there was a chance that one of the 2 teams was going to lose their unbeaten record. Lee and myself were pretty determined it wasn’t going to be us!
We gave the lads the pre match prep talk telling them that last weeks great result would mean nothing if they didn’t come away with 2 points again today and I like to think they took it all in. We battled hard and played some good football in the early stages and were deserved scorers of the first goal through Kane F… We continued to have the better of the play throughout the first period and added 2 more goals through Ryan and Elliot. As usual I can’t remember how the goals came about so if any parent would like to keep notes throughout the game then please don’t be shy coming forward…! The half time score was probably a fair reflection of the game. However, Westerham did have chances but little did they know who they were coming up against between the Invicta posts. Take a bow Stanley Hill! Stanley was quick of his line, brave in the tackle and his distribution was excellent. Plenty of plaudits came in from the Westerham manager at the end of the game for Stanley but I had to inform him he is under contract to Invicta…..!
The second half was similar to the first with Invicta having the lion’s share of the passion and Westerham looking dangerous on the break. Or final goal was added by Kane J. I hope our defensive duo (Sam & Luke) along with Stanley take as much pride in keeping a clean sheet against a team who score on average nearly 5 goals a game as they would scoring a goal. Our four midfielders worked very hard as always. My only slight criticism is the need to use the ball better from midfield; we tend to do a little to much as individuals instead of letting the ball do the work. That is something that will get better….
Lastly a mention for Kane Joseph who I believe had his best game so far for us, he may of scored more in other games but today his enthusiasm, willingness to chase lost causes and all round centre forward play was a joy to watch….
Bottom line is another great result but we can still get better!
Man of the match as voted for by the parents was Stanley Hill
