Tonbridge Invicta Hurricanes 8 Oxted and District Lions 1

by admin last modified 2007-07-08 15:51

4th February 2007

Scorers: Kane Fairweather 2, Kane Joseph 4, Elliot Checkley, Ryan Hine

A home win saw us pick up 2 more valuable points to maintain our lead at the top of the table. This was our last opportunity to put in a good performance before facing the top team in the in the “C” Division.

I’m sure the boys appreciated the opportunity to play on a pitch that wasn’t muddy and to be fair some of the football reflected this. We were pretty sharp out of the blocks and playing some “ok” football to go into a 3 - 1 half time lead. Stanley H (GK), Luke B (Def) and Sam Greehy (Def) kept Oxted’s chances to a minimum although I am sure they will be disappointed in conceding a goal. The goal was by no means their fault it was one of the reason in bold text below..... (Any idea Hurricanes which one?).

The second half saw us add 5 more goals and complete another good victory. The fact that Luke B pick up the man of the match award goes a little way in saying Oxted had more breaks and chances than I would have liked. The second half saw us score more goals but not necessarily play better, we do tend to stop passing the ball when we have a good lead!

8 -1 is a very good result and I am pleased with the effort that the boys put in to the game. I thought both Kane’s and Stanley had good solid games. Ryan, Elliot and Kieron provided the service from the wings and worked hard going forward.

Below are some areas that we can still definitely improve on.

As a team anyone who plays in the middle or on the wings must stick to their positions (we are so much better when we go wide and attack the opposition from the flanks....). We must talk more, we must all want the ball more, and we must defend as a team which means tracking back when an attacking move breaks down. Finally we need to be a little sharper when we haven’t got the ball! (Any idea what I mean there Hurricanes!)

Man of the match as voted for by the parents Luke Bohanan (well done skipper)...

Final word: Big game next week and we are more than capable of beating a team currently 2 divisions above us but we will ALL need to put in the effort. If 5 out of 7 of us win personal battles on the pitch we WILL progress into the next round. How much do you want it Hurricanes?
