Champions, Champions, Champions, Champions.......

Despite the wait the boys can now class themselves as the ”Winners” of the league in their debut season..(and Cup semi-finalists). A brilliant season that they have totally deserved for their effort, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. WELL DONE All of you...

Back to the game! A hard, bouncy, small pitch welcomed us at the Ex-Blues ground. The parents took their positions in the sun ready to cheer on the boys. Both teams started well with Ex-Blues playing a lot better than their league position belied. A few weaving run from both Kane’s and Ryan and were beginning to make a few inroads into the opposition’s danger area. We did score first when a speculative long range effort from Sam Greehy found an excellent Ex-Blues keeper making his only mistake of the game and dropping the ball over the line, he went on to make umpteen top quality saves that were applauded by both sets of parents. Ex-Blues equalised and as they have done all the boys responded with more effort and determination. Kane F then put us into the lead again with a fine shot. Half time came and we told the boys more of the same effort would secure the title...

The football the boys played on a difficult pitch in the second half was excellent and a credit to them. The passing was slick, the movement was there and they attacked and defended as a unit. Luke Bohannon made some fine runs from the back when he knew he had cover, any break by Ex-Blues was dealt with by Sam’s trusty right boot and Stanley in goal. To be fair Stanley was mainly a spectator in the second half dominated by Invicta. Kieron Mathew and Lee Checkley both had excellent games wide with Kieron called upon to play in his normal 2-3 positions. Elliot’s dead ball quality meant we were creating a lot of chances from corners and any free kicks won out wide.

Goals 3-5 came courtesy of a break through the defence and coolly slotted goal by Kane J, another cool finish from Kane F who produced a tireless display in midfield often marking a boy almost twice his size! Goal 5 gave me and Lee enormous satisfaction as it proved that the boys listen to us! A fine corner by Elliot deep with height, Ryan making a run from the back post and meeting it with his head and heading the ball downwards. It really was a goal straight from the training ground!!! That completed the scoring and at the final whistle it was a joy to see so many smiling faces.....

The parents and relatives have been wonderful with their support and enthusiasm. They are very much appreciated by Lee and myself. I know some team have parents from hell! but we are lucky to have the complete opposite. A special mention for Claire Greehy who does a lot behind the scenes and also on match day and the Becks and Bo (Lukes parents) who had the unenviable task of picking up the goals for each home game. Thank you

Man of the Match on “Champions” day was: Keiron Mathew (well done Kezza).
