Oxted & District Lions 0 - 10 Tonbridge Invicta Hurricanes
15th October 2006
Scorers:
Ryan Hine 6, Kane Fairweather 4
Another sunny October day saw us travel away to Oxted with only 7 players. When I saw the size of the pitch (it seemed large) I thought the boys would have to work very hard for each other. I shouldn't have worried their work rate, again, was terrific.
We started slowly but I put this down to a couple of the lads playing in new positions. Once we started getting more of the ball we looked like we were capable of causing their defence problems. By half time we were 3 - 0 up with Kane scoring 2 and Ryan 1 and combining very well each time we attacked. Luke Bohanan and Sam Greehy marshalled the defence and Stanley Hill (goalkeeper) was only called upon on a couple of occasions to make saves. A special mention for Sam who played an exceptionally disciplined game... despite wanting to go forward and try to score a goal he was asked to be Invicta's last man and did so without many complaints!... The second half was always going to be easier as the pitch sloped in our favour and what little breeze there was also went our way. 7 more goals were added 5 for Ryan and 2 for Kane (first match day hat-trick for our little central midfielder, who today played as a striker). Kane's all round game was very impressive with some lovely touches and dribbling runs. Ryan continued on his amazing goal scoring run having now scored 16 times in 4 games (sorry had to mention being a proud dad and all that!)...
In the second half Oxted's attacks were very few and far between so we took the opportunity to let Stanley out of goal for a well deserved run with Elliot Checkley taking over between the posts. Stanley took the oppurtunity to stretch his legs and prove he can play on pitch as well as in goal, but I knew that anyway.
Keiron Matthew and Elliot Checkley were our two wide players and again contributed to another fine team performance listening to advice and working hard up and down the line.
Despite winning by such a scoreline I did see areas for improvement but I'm not going to put them on my report in case any opposition teams are looking in!!
In my opinion there were at least 3 candidates for man of the match and whoever received would have been a worthy winner.
Man of the match as voted for by the parents / supporters was Sam Greehy (well done Sam).
